Apple Upgrades Keynote with HDR Image Capability

Apple definitely seems to be increasing the pace in the world of High Dynamic Range (HDR) imaging by launching an update to its Keynote application – and it has done a great job. Keynote now allows you to add HDR images with a range of formats, including AVIF (.avif), JPEG XL (.jxl), tone-mapped JPEG (.jpg) and its own HEIC (.heic) format. Keynote is able to export a presentation in different ways, including HDR videos (with a range of formats and resolutions). In my initial testing, I was able to export in 4k, with a choice of:
  • frame rates (up to 60fps)
  • formats (including H.264, HEVC and Apple ProRes)
  • colour spaces (including PQ HDR and Dolby Vision 8.4 HDR).
This could easily be uploaded to Vimeo, YouTube and other sharing platforms. I created the following presentation (very quickly) to show the categories of image that suit true HDR photography perfectly. I was also able to rapidly add commentary from ElevenLabs’s text to speech AI platform.
