This year, I visited Wimpole Hall for its ‘Christmas at Wimpole 2021’ winter trail. I’ve not been to this annual event before but it is a major fundraiser for the National Trust. I was actually very impressed with what I saw and heard. With the National Trust requesting photos from visitors, I decided to take my cameras (Sony A1 and Sony A7R IV), coupled with lenses designed for low light (such as the Sony 50mm F1.2 GM lens).
I always enjoy photography challenges in low light, and took my monopod to allow low ISOs and slow shutter speeds to be used without causing motion blur. While every other visitor seemed to be happy taking snaps with their mobile phones, I really hate noisy images so I am happy to pay the price of increased weight.
I also visited the Anglesey Abbey Winter Lights 2021 event, which raised £250,000 and had 24,000 visitors over nine evenings.
