Sony has been on a roll recently with the introduction of several groundbreaking lenses. Following quickly after the amazing Sony 50mm F1.2 GM lens, Sony has introduced its ultra-wide-angle 14mm F1.8 GM lens.
Just as with the Sony 50mm F1.2 lens, it is astonishing how much performance Sony has packed in to such a small, and light form factor. Sharpness is absolutely incredible, even when fully open (F1.8). This lens is perfect for architecture, and I’m looking forward to testing its credentials with astrophotography.
As well as the incredible resolution on offer, this lens also provides impressive bokeh (as shown above), allowing backgrounds to be blurred with ultra-wide-angled shots where the subject is close to the camera. While 14mm lenses are generally not known for their bokeh, this lens will open up many creative opportunities with the smooth background blur on offer.
